Frida Kahlo, achieving a lot with little

A life full of pitfalls

A modern woman, Frida Kahlo is a Mexican painter who led an eventful life. Before she began painting her folk art, she was raised in a provincial suburb of Mexico City. 🇲🇽 She accompanied her father in his profession as a photographer. At the age of 8, she lost the use of one leg due to an illness, but this was only the beginning of a long series of difficulties. Despite a path strewn with pitfalls and a macho society, she managed to join a renowned school.

She would later experience a very serious bus accident, hit by a tram. Frida Khalo would spend a good part of her life lying down, having to give up many dreams. She took the time to read novels and poetry in order to escape. Later, her culture would inspire her works, mainly self-portraits, painted behind her mirror, including more than one where she depicts herself bruised.

On the heart side, Frida Kahlo married at 22 Diego Rivera, who was twice her age, an artist and communist like her. Their relationship was, like the rest of her life, full of suffering. She would never get pregnant and would be cheated on many times.

A folk art 💐

We discover, through her work, a free and inspired woman, immersed in a folkloric artistic universe, like Mexico. A rebellious icon but also an inspiration in the world of fashion.
  • Jean Paul Gaultier dedicated a collection to him in 1998 .
  • American-Indian designer Naeem Khan's Spring 2016 collection.
  • Also, Alberta Ferretti a spring 2014 collection.
  • And many more...

In fact, it still inspires many creators and artists, including Maripoza who admires its folk art.

Frida Kahlo is an artist committed to the emancipation of women. She shows the importance of work and passion to survive in the face of life's difficulties. It is perhaps this passion for art that allowed her to hold on.
